The Zago carpentry workshop
Carlo Zago, an outstanding craftsman specialized in furniture repairs, opens a small carpentry workshop in Venice.
1945
The Grand Hotel era
The management of the company passes to Carlo Zago, who has the same name as his grandfather. The company makes furniture and furnishings for banks and grand hotels like the Excelsior al Lido, the Gritti and the Danieli in Venice and the Principe & Savoia in Milan.
1961
Entry into the shipbuilding industry
With the fitting out of the ferryboat Appia (Adriatica di Navigazione), Zago starts to work with Fincantieri.
1964
Relocation to Scorzè
The production of ship furnishings grows to the point that a new factory has to be built. At Scorzè, Zago produces the interiors for the last ocean liners of the period: the Guglielmo Marconi and the Raffaello.
1987
Patent for prefabricated cabins
Zago registers the first Italian patent for the construction of prefabricated cabins that make it easier to coordinate construction work in shipyards and reduce installation times.
1989
Passenger ships
Zago works on the construction of the passenger ship Crown Princess, with its distinctive dolphin-like profile designed by Renzo Piano, for the long-established P&O Princess Cruise Line.
1994
Ten years of yachts
Carlo Zago hands over the business to his son Antonio, representing the fourth generation of the family. Two years later, in 1994, the project to recreate the decor of the 70-metre Albacore at the Arsenale in Venice – a joint effort with Espen Oeino – propels Zago into the yachting world. Over the next ten years, the company works with the industry’s most renowned shipyards.
2000
The first projects with Ferretti Group
The creation of the first Custom Line 112's lower deck marks the start of the collaboration with one of the most important operators in the international yacht industry: Ferretti Group.
2004
Zago joins Ferretti Group
To sustain what is now unstoppable growth, Zago merges with Ferretti Group by transferring a controlling interest to it. This strategy enables the company to increase its sales twofold between 2004 and 2008.
2012
At the forefront of the yacht industry
Chinese group Weichai, a leading manufacturer of motors for heavy machinery and automotive components, acquires Ferretti Group and all its companies. In 2016, the shareholders are joined by F Investments, the Ferrari family's holding company.
2022
Listing on the Hong Kong stock exchange
On March 31, 2022, the group controlled by Weichai, with minority shareholder Piero Ferrari, completed its stock exchange listing in Hong Kong, the financial capital of a region where luxury boatbuilding is a high profile market.
2023
Listing on the Milan stock exchange
On June 27, 2023, Ferretti Group also lists on Euronext Milano, becoming one of the first groups in the world to have this dual listing.
